The White Hart - AA Pub of the Year for Wales 2011-2012

The White Hart Village Inn in Llangybi received nationwide recognition last night when it was
named AA Pub of the Year for Wales, sponsored by Karcher, at the AA Hospitality Awards
2011 – 2012, hosted by Sophie Raworth, at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
Michael Bates, Director, The White Hart Village Inn, who received the award in front of an
audience of over 700 members of the hospitality industry, commented, “This award is
testimony to the dedication of the whole team who endeavour to provide a professional
experience for all our guests. We are delighted to be recognised within the industry for
providing hospitality to a high standard. It demonstrates that all the hard work is definitely
worthwhile.”

Set in the quiet village of Llangybi, near Usk, The White Hart dates back to the early 1500s
and is reputed to have been visited by Oliver Cromwell and TS Elliot. Open fireplaces
together with beamed ceilings create a warm, welcoming feel. Chef patron Michael Bates
offers drinkers reliable beers from the likes of Tomos Watkins and Taffy Apple cider. In the
two AA Rosette-awarded restaurant Head Chef Adam Whittle prepares dishes using fresh
local produce on menus that are a combination of exciting ingredients and complementary
flavours, prepared and presented with the utmost care.

AA Hotel Services manager, Simon Numphud, said, “The White Hart is a delightful 12th
century historic inn oozing charm and character which includes 11 original open fire places.
Food and ale take equal centre stage that attracts both a loyal local following as well as

visitors from far afield. This is a real top notch pub worthy of any detour”
The AA Hospitality Awards bring together some of the most influential people within the
hospitality industry to recognise the outstanding accomplishments of high-achieving AA
establishments and individuals. The award event also sees the launch of the 2012 AA guides

to UK hotels and restaurants, which contain details of all the winning establishments.
Guests were treated to a magnificent gourmet meal created by five AA Rosette-awarded chef
Pierre Gagnaire in conjunction with the Hilton Park Lane kitchen team, and were entertained
by Britain’s Got Talent stars Out of the Blue.

Selection is made based on overall excellence and the specific achievements throughout the
previous year.
